2-7 Triple Draw Strategy - Position
December 31, 2009
If you have ever played Poker, you must have heard the expression of playing your position. Unfortunately, too many people do not even know what position is, let alone how to effectively use your position. Having position means that you are the last player to act, giving you the ability to see what all the other players at the table were going to do before making your own play. Because you are not able to see any of the other players’ cards when playing 2-7 Triple Draw, position plays an even more important role. In Draw Poker, having position allows you to see how strong other players hands are, even if you can not see any of their cards. If a player draws a lot of cards, clearly you see that they did not have a strong hand and are still drawing in hopes of making one. However, when you see players standing pat, which means that they want to keep all 5 of their cards, you must consider that they have a hand they feel is strong enough not to draw for better. Below is a scenario covering when position becomes a factor in 27 Triple Draw.
2-7 Triple Draw - Early Position
Normally if you have a 2-7 Triple Draw starting hand like 2-6-8-J-Q you may want to play it but if you are in an early position this hand doesn’t look very good, especially if you are playing at a full 6 seat ring table. People like to raise pre-draw in 2-7 Triple Draw so you really don’t want to commit yourself to a hand like this. If you are in a late position and no-one raised this hand would be worth a draw. Positional play is a very important part of a successful 2-7 Triple Draw strategy.
